Getting Ready for the GDPR Session 4: GDPR, Privacy Shield, and EU-US Data Transfers

Since the Schrems decision and the invalidation of the EU-U.S. Safe Harbor, companies have faced a high level of legal uncertainty in relation to data transfers. During this webcast, we will focus on the restrictions applicable to data transfers under the GDPR and on the recent adoption of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. We will analyze how the GDPR impacts EU data transfers restrictions and the various data transfer mechanisms available to lawfully export data from the EU.  Finally, we will discuss the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield, including what it means, how it works, whether to certify, the challenges faced by companies, and practical tips for certifying to the Privacy Shield.

On May 4, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was published in the EU Official Journal. The clock is now ticking. By May 25, 2018, companies must comply with the GDPR's new stringent requirements. WSGR "Getting Ready for the GDPR" series are practical webcasts to help companies assess how the GDPR will impact their business and how they should plan to comply with it.
